Job Profile Summary:
The IMS System Programmer is responsible for providing technical support for the IMS system and database environment. The IMS System Programmer will be involved in all aspects of IMS – Installation of new IMS versions, software maintenance, monitoring, support for IMS Resource Repository VSAM datasets, Backup and maintenance of the IMS RECON datasets, support of weekly IMS pointer checker jobs, weekly gens, database expansions, backup/recovery and data archive.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Install, configure, and maintain IMS instances
• Ensure system/database availability, integrity, and recoverability
• Conduct database performance monitoring and tuning
• Troubleshoot and resolve database errors, including after-hours and weekends
• Provide IMS customer support
• Provide Disaster Recovery support
• Monitoring of IMS systems
• Complete routine database maintenance and data refreshes
• Enforce database administration standards and best practices

Qualifications:
- System support of IMS requires the knowledge of JCL, TSO/ISPF and IBM utilities. Also, knowledge of VTAM, RACF rules, MQ interface, DBCTL, ISC, and Omegamon.
- Installation of new IMS versions on IMS LPARs, all of which requires the following:
- SMPE installs and subsequent IMS system gens to customize the install to meet corporate application requirements
- Knowledge of IMS macros, how to revise IBM code within the macros to adhere to requirements, and the impact of the macros on the IMS sysgen process
- Knowledge of IMS exits and how to analyze, replace, and update assembler code within the exits
- Monitoring of IMS PTFs published by IBM
- Support, maintenance, and backup of the IMS Resource Repository vsam datasets
- Support of weekly IMS pointer checker jobs
- Support of OTMA (IMS open transaction manager access)
- Maintenance of daily online image copies of all production databases
- Update and customize TCO (time-controlled operations) test and production scripts for the scheduled submission of application IMS transactions and chores
- Ability to configure and start the production IMS control regions for database recovery
- Support production online change for the installation of IMS PSBs and formats
- Support and maintain customized corporate reports
- IMS gens, emergency PSB installs, transaction dequeues, online change support, extent expansion
- Disaster Recovery backup, system setup and database recovery.
- Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skill
- Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language
- Self motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
- Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
